The paintings impart a sense of time passing, rather than a moment captured. They feel old yet relevant, deliberately stylized but imbued with flawed humanity and all its scratchy notions of identity. They exist at an intersection of minimalism and motion painting, and experiment with a simplicity that appears to evolve out of layering rather than the conservative application of pigment. Conceptually, the pieces toy frequently with the ideas of home, speech, and simplified forms of familiar objects. There is an evident consideration of space and perception, and this works with the employment of proverbial imagery to make profound commentaries on the actions of memory while maintaining a childish innocence that is both genuine and retrospective.
